The Mt Ruapehu Round the Mountain (RTM) hike is typically done in a clockwise circuit and is also known as the Southern Circuit. On this trip we decided to go anti-clockwise to beat potential river rising from the predicted rain that hardly arrived. We also took our time and stayed in every hut making it 5 nights. As we hiked this in May (I would now recommend it as the best time to do it), we had every hut to ourselves, but one. Overall, I'm giving this hike an 11/10 all day long.
